ABOUT ME

Welcome to a bite-sized portion of my world! I’m Priscila Flores, a sophomore at the University of Michigan majoring in environmental studies with a minor in writing. The gateway course of the writing minor resulted in the completion of this project which I have become very proud of. It is focused on topics in the environment and sustainability.

I grew up in South Florida and spent many months out of the year with my family in Monterrey, Mexico. As one could imagine based on the diversity of ecosystems in these regions, this exposed me to a dense variety of flora and fauna. In coincidence with this fact, I became enthralled by nature and all of its parts. Following the viewing of a documentary on the food industry in early 2015, I acknowledged that my consumption of meat did not align with my morals and decided to become a vegetarian. I decided to transition to nearly completely vegan in 2018 after deciding that the consumption of any animal product also did not align with my beliefs. So for the past five years, I have almost followed a completely plant-based diet. Throughout the years, I have spent ample time researching the subject and become intensely aware of how each of our choices impact the natural world’s resources and communities globally.

This leads to my final project, a short story about a man and a choice. Now it’s up to you to decide… are we responsible for how our selfish decisions impact others? Or should we aim to lead a life focused on our own livelihood, leaving others in our dust?
